"… a profound examination of the mechanics
of sound; with the accompaniment of a band, the cadences of a
person’s voice become orchestral, redefining the way we perceive
human conversation – and emotion."

Approximately one year ago, Charles Spearin, multi-instrumentalist and
founding member of influential Toronto-based bands Broken Social Scene
and Do Make Say Think, began inviting neighbors to his house for
casual interviews vaguely centered around the subject of happiness.
After each conversation, Spearin would replay the recording and
examine the thoughts expressed. He also listened for a natural melody
and cadence to the speaking voices of his neighbors as they discussed
their views, longings and life tales. With The Happiness Project, Spearin blurs the line between speaking and singing—life and art—
and writes music based on these accidental melodies.
