Tip One Back for the Southern #2
On May 20th the Southern Theater staff and Board of Directors invite you to attend the next event in the Tip One Back for the Southern tasting series.
From 3p - 6p you'll enjoy wine tasting at Alexis Bailly Vineyard in lovely Hastings, MN. Nosh on food pairings created by Chef Travis Metzger from First Course in Minneapolis and savor the lovely sounds of jazz provided by students from the Walker West Music Academy.
Enjoy bocce ball and the pleasant country side during the afternoon, guess the number of corks in a jar to win a wine basket from Alexis Bailly, and bid on a variety of lovely gifts.
It should prove to be a spectacular afternoon with friends and guests of Southern Theater.
All the proceeds raised will benefit the Southern.
Tickets for the event are $45 per person.
Thanks to some generous donors we have some awesome prizes that we'll be raffling off at Tip One Back.

Urban Yoga Workshop
It's been updated and condensed and all ready for YOU!
Moksha Yoga is proud to present the Urban Yoga Workshop at the Southern Theater.
"FREEDOM is Important. ART is Important. More then this, having a place to share your expression is even more valuable. This is why we are so proud to host this unique Yoga Fundraiser for the one of a kind non-profit SOUTHERN THEATRE. This half-day workshop will include a live hip hop and slam poetry performance by the legendary conscious artist Guante. Then Philly D will take the mic and hit you with a Dharma Talk called "Paths 2 Freedom." We close the day with an uplifting Hip Hop Yoga class full of positive music reflective of the days theme: Freedom & Art. This event is YOGA WITH A CONSCIOUS SWAGGER."
Tip One Back For The Southern
On Sunday October 30th, we are teaming up with the Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery to bring you the first in our Tip One Back For The Southern tasting series.
Throughout the year we will be partnering with local beer, wine, and spririt makers to have them sample their craft on our stage. With live music, fun emcee's and some local food we know this will be a fantastic way to celebrate and support the Southern, all while experiencing some of the best drinks our state has to offer.
This first series is from 4p - 6p on Sunday Oct 30th and will feature beers from our friends at Town Hall.
The featured beers at this event are:
- Hope & King Scotch Ale (2011 Gold Medal Winner)
- Three Hour Tour
- Columbus (CTZ) Red
We are also so excited to have Southern Board member DeVon Gray and his band Chihuahua City perform during the event.
Tickets for this event are $15 when you pre-purchase them, or $20 the day of the event.
Premiere of Midwest Brigadoon
"For most of the year, the 320 acres of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds stays pretty quiet. But at the end of every summer, for just 12 days, 1.8 million people from around the world pack into this place. They eat, they play, they dance, they sing. And just as quickly, they head back out, and it’s quiet again, for another 353 days. Midwest Brigadoon tells the story of this place, this event, this city that emerges from nothing, to abundance, to nothing again, documenting the odd spectacle of this uniquely American experience through poetic visuals by Ochen Kaylan and meditative score by Leslie Ball."
Premiering at the Historic Southen Theater on Sunday August 21st.
Doors and preshow activities start at 7pm. Midwest Brigadoon will show at 8pm.
Tickets are Pay What You Can (Suggested Donation $10). The Southern Theater accepts cash, check, and all major credit cards.
Preshow activities will include spin art on the Southern stage, mini-donuts vendor, raffles, and other state fair related activities (all proceeds will benefit the Southern Theater)
