Production Manager
The Southern Theater’s Production Manager has primary administrative responsibility for the production department, including technical and production budgeting, scheduling, planning, and hiring for all Southern produced and presented performances and special events. The Production Manager reports to the Artistic Director and works closely with the entire theater staff.
The Southern is a 200-seat theater with 200-plus lighting instruments presenting a full season of dance, music, and theater each year. Most of the nearly 30 shows presented each year are created and performed by local (Twin Cities) artists. Part of the Southern’s mission is to help artists develop and improve their show production abilities. The Production Manger plays a key role in facilitating this part of the Southern’s mission.
The Production Manager’s work will involve interaction with and support for artists, and should be consistent with the Southern's intent that artists have as positive an experience as possible when they are here. The Production Manager will be part of a small but dedicated production staff responsible for the smooth functioning of the entire tech production facility. As such the Production Manger must be willing to assume some flexibility in the exact tasks performed, in keeping with the limited staff capacity of the Southern.
