Mariusz is a native of Poland and graduate of the Institute of Culture Theater Department in Opole. He danced in Poland’s first professional modern dance company-The Silesian Dance Theater--from 1991-95, touring throughout Poland, Europe and the United States. In 1995 he was honored with the President of Silesia’s Award for Outstanding Artist. Mariusz moved to Minneapolis in 1996 to join JAZZDANCE! By Danny Buraczeski. Since 2003, Mariusz has served as co-director of Beyond Ballroom Dance Company, whose work combines the technical mastery of ballroom dance with the artistic freedom and innovation of theater.

Artist Statement

I’m thrilled to be a part of the Minneapolis dance community-a “family” of dancers who share mutual respect for each other and for the quality of dance. My goal as a dancer is constant improvement, constant challenge, and constant self-discovery. Dance has been my medium for discovering different cultures and environments, all of them linked by the passion for dance shared by people throughout the world. The interaction between performers and the way we inspire each other has been the driving force that has kept me dancing for almost 20 years.

I believe a message is sent every time a dancer moves. It can touch us, offend us, challenge our ways of thinking, bring tears to our eyes, make us laugh, and inspire us for the rest of our lives. I feel privileged to be able to do what I love and share it with so many amazing people-all the artists I have had a chance to work with, all the masters I have learned from, and all the dancers who have inspired me to be a better dancer…I live to dance…I dance to live.
